First grown in gardens as far back as 1827, this smaller perennial bulb variety is ideal for filling small open spaces in the garden. Thrives beneath trees, between shrubs, in wooded or rocky areas. In bud, Scilla litardierei looks like a grape hyacinth, but in bloom, its dense, pyramidal spikes take on a feathery appearance, with each stem bearing 40 to 60 star-shaped flowers. When fully open, the vibrant violet-blue blossoms reveal a tuft of dark-tipped stamens. Amethyst Meadow Squill are easy to grow and bloom during the transition between spring bulbs and summer perennials. RHS Award of Garden Merit.
